COLUMBUS, Ohio – Members of the Ohio State track and field teams completed competition Saturday in the final day of events at the 106th running of the Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania’s Franklin Field in Philadelphia. OSU thrower Lenny Jatsek followed up a strong shot put showing Friday with a sixth-place finish in the men’s hammer collegiate division Saturday.

Friday, Jatsek, the 2006 Big Ten champion in the indoor weight, heaved a seventh-place mark of 52 feet, 4 inches in the men’s collegiate shot put championship. He backed up that effort with a heave of 189-2 in the hammer Saturday. In the shot college division Friday, Pat Whalen took top honors with a near-career best toss of 57-0.

In the jumps Saturday, OSU freshman Brandon Cathcart was sixth in the men’s triple jump college section with a stretch of 48-6. For the women Friday, current Big Ten indoor and outdoor champion Jessica Stringer took seventh in the high jump with a mark of 5-8 3/4.

In the relays Friday, the OSU men’s 4×100-meter team clocked a season-best time of 41.83 to rank 33rd in the collegiate division. The men’s distance medley consisted of freshmen Matt Comer and Jeff See, junior Gerald Griffin and senior Brian Olinger and ran in the collegiate championships section. The foursome placed 10th in a time of 9:43.84. Later Friday, Adam Wilhelm joined Comer, Griffin and See in the sprint medley relay and captained that squad to a sixth-place overall finish and top time in its heat with a 3:23.89. The Buckeyes are back in action next week, returning to Columbus to wrap up the home schedule with the 2006 Jesse Owens Track Classic.
