COLUMBUS, Ohio – Nearly 1,500 cheerleaders representing 150 cheerleading squads will converge on St. John Arena Sunday for the 17th annual Ohio State Cheerleading Competition.

Individual competition gets underway in the adjacent French Field House at 8:45 a.m. while squads will begin competing at 9:15 a.m. on the St. John Arena floor. Seventh, eighth and ninth grade squads as well as a few all-star squads will compete in the morning with the award presentation being held at 11:35 a.m. Then there will be a small break before high school and additional all-star squads begin competing at 12:30 p.m.

The Ohio State cheerleading team, fresh off a 14th-place finish at the UCA College Nationals last month, will perform an exhibition routine at noon.

Ohio State cheerleaders will be working the entire event in their uniforms. Some will judge the competition, while others will serve as hosts and hostesses for the teams. The team, which uses the event as a fundraiser for its scholarship program, also will be taking tickets and managing the warm-up areas.

Adult tickets for the competition are $6 while tickets for students and seniors are $3. Tickets are available in the St. John Arena Ticket Office on the south side of the arena off of Woody Hayes Drive.
