COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team began competition at the HEB/Under Armour Fall Invite Friday afternoon in Waco, Texas. Playing in their debut collegiate matches, freshmen Anna Sanford and Olivia Sneed earned their first career doubles and singles victories at the event.
The round-robin tournament, hosted by Baylor, will continue throughout the weekend. Doubles action kicks off at 10 a.m. CT Saturday, followed by singles at 11:15 a.m. CT. A live video stream is available throughout the tournament at the link above.
Both Buckeye doubles teams tallied victories on the first day of competition. Ferny Angeles Paz and Grainne O’Neill edged South Alabama’s Emily Newton and Michaela Meszarosova in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (1). The freshman duo of Sanford and Sneed cruised to an 8-1 victory vs. Southern Methodist’s Maxine Schmidt and Yana Ekeeva.
In singles play, Sanford tabbed a 6-2, 6-3 victory vs. Schmidt, while Sneed also posted a straight-set victory against Pereira, 6-4, 6-3. Angeles Paz dropped her match to TCU’s Palina Dubavets, 6-0, 2-6, 7-5, and O’Neill fell to Southern Methodist’s Hristina Dishkova, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
