Ohio State Athletics Good Stuff – Sept. 4

No. 5 Football (1-0)

  • The Buckeyes blew out Oregon State in the season opener, 77-31
  • Dwayne Haskins Jr. threw for 313 yards and five TDs in the win, securing the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week award
  • Mike Webber Jr. tallied 186 rushing yards and three TDs on the ground. He caught a TD to finish with four TDs on the day
  • The 721 yards of total offense is the second highest total in program history, only behind the 776 yards put up in the 2016 season opener against Bowling Green

Women’s Soccer (3-2-0)

  • Ohio State opened the weekend with an 8-0 thrashing of Morehead State
  • Emlay Vatne scored the first, and second, and third goals of her career as she tallied a hat trick against Morehead State
  • Six different Buckeyes found the back of the net against the Eagles
  • Ohio State notched its third consecutive win at Notre Dame on Sunday
  • Blair Cowan netted the lone goal in the match in the 80th minute to win it for the Buckeyes

No. 24 Field Hockey (2-2)

  • The Buckeyes jumped out to an early lead against the Terriers on Monday when Casey Cole scored just over four minutes into the game
  • After BU took the lead with two consecutive goals, OSU rattled off three straight to seal their second win of the season

Women’s Volleyball (5-1)

  • The Buckeyes continued their hot start to the season by splitting during the first day of the Rebel Invitational
  • Ohio State fell to a 2-1 deficit against Southern Miss in the opening contest on Friday before rallying to take the match 5-2
  • On Saturday the Buckeyes made short work of Samford, sweeping the Bulldogs in straight sets

Men’s & Women’s Cross Country

  • The women’s team took first place at the Queen City Invitational with a score of 68 points
  • Junior Lainey Studebaker paced the Buckeyes with a fifth-place finish, clocking in at 17:54.4
  • The men’s team took sixth place in the event
  • The five Ohio State scorers were spread out just 26 seconds between each other

Larry Romanoff Rides Off Into The Sunset

  • Larry Romanoff retired last week after 50 years with the scarlet and gray
  • The last staff member remaining that worked with Woody Hayes, Romanoff provided a steadying presence that helped both long-time employees and rookies alike find their footing with the Buckeyes
