Athletes of the Week

  • J.C. Murasky, track and field
    • The redshirt senior posted a throw of 19.38 meters in the shot put Friday at the Buckeye Classic, which is the best in the NCAA so far this and better than his personal-best indoor mark by a foot. He now ranks fourth all-time in the Ohio State indoor record book.
  • Kelsey Mitchell, women’s basketball
    • The second-leading scorer in the country had another great week on the court, scoring 54 total points in Ohio State’s wins over Indiana and Rutgers.

No. 5 Women’s Basketball (12-3, 4-0 B1G)

  • The Buckeyes kept on rolling with two victories last week, extending their winning streak to eight games after wins against Indiana and Rutgers.
  • In the 97-70 triumph over the Hoosiers, Ohio State had a season-low six turnovers as a team, while Mitchell and Shayla Cooper each scored 23 points.
  • Mitchell also poured in 31 points in the 90-78 win over the Scarlet Knights. Teammate Ameryst Alston added 21 points.

Men’s Basketball (11-6, 3-1 B1G)

  • Ohio State defeated Northwestern 65-56 in Evanston Wednesday night.
  • Kam Williams drilled a career-high five three-pointers against the Wildcats en route to 21 points, while Trevor Thompson contributed a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Freshman JaQuan Lyle scored a career-high 29 points in a losing effort at Indiana on Sunday.

Men’s Ice Hockey (6-12-0, 1-3-0 B1G)

  • Led by Christian Frey’s second consecutive shutout, Ohio State earned a series split against Wisconsin, winning game one 2-0 and tying 4-4 in game two before dropping the shootout.
  • Tyler Lundley scored a goal in both games and Freddy Gerard had a three-point day in game two, scoring once and notching two assists.

Men’s Volleyball (2-2)

  • The Buckeyes won two of their three matches last week, defeating Princeton and No. 12 USC to earn their first victories of the season.
  • Against Princeton, Ohio State’s offense performed well with 38 kills and a .347 attacking percentage. Nicolas Szerszan led all players with 14 kills while Miles Johnson and Christian Franseschi both added 10.
  • Johnson and Szerszan each added 13.5 points in the win over the Trojans while Alex Judkins had a match-high six digs.

Track & Field

No. 22 Women’s Gymnastics

  • In its first meet of the season, Ohio State posted a 194.275-193.725 victory at Washington Saturday evening.
  • Samantha Kent (9.850) tied her career-high on the uneven bars while Taylor Harrison and Alexis Mattern each posted a 9.775 in the floor exercise.
