COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s ice hockey forward Jana Harrigan and defenseman Amber Bowman will serve as team captains and Katie Maroney was named an alternate captain for the 2005-06 season, current captains Meaghan Mulvaney, Jeni Creary and Melissa Glaser announced at the Buckeyes’ annual awards banquet at Holiday Inn on the Lane Saturday. The trio, all first-year captains, were voted on by their teammates.

A native of Burlington, Ontario, Harrigan led the team and was ranked 17th in the nation with 54 points (16-38) last season, setting the program record for single season points. Harrigan was a two-time WCHA Offensive Player of the Week honoree and received national recognition when she was named an USCHO.com Offensive Player of the Week honorable mention. In each of her three years on the Buckeye squad, Harrigan has led the team in scoring with 28 points as a freshman and 31 in her sophomore campaign. She has seen action in 109 career games, posting 113 points (45-68).

Bowman, a native of Innisfil, Ontario, closed out her sophomore season second among defensemen and tied for 15th among defensemen across the nation with 23 points (6-17). She was third on the squad with 18 power-play points. As a freshman, Bowman was second among the rookie class with 14 points. In her two-year career, Bowman has competed in 71 games, recording 37 points (9-28).

Maroney, from La Porte, Ind., saw action in all 37 games last season and recorded four goals, including the gamewinning goal in the 5-4 victory over Yale, Jan. 14. Named the team’s Most Improved Player in her freshman campaign, Maroney has competed in 72 games as a Buckeye and posted 10 points (7-3).
