Borchers Named Big Ten Athlete of the Week
Ohio State senior All-American Katie Borchers was named Big Ten Cross Country Athlete of the Week Tuesday by the conference office.

Borchers, a native of Russia, Ohio, crossed the finish line in a personal-best 5k time of 16:19.40 (5:16 mile pace) Friday at the Notre Dame Invitational, 16 seconds faster than her previous record set three weeks ago at the Kentucky Bluegrass Invitational. Three of the Top-4 finishers at the meet, which featured 165 runners total, were All-Americans during the 2013 season.

Ohio State closed the meet with a team score of 184, defeating three Top-40 teams and finishing three points shy of fifth place and 30th-ranked Penn State.

The weekly award is the second for Borchers this season after she previously won following her victory at Kentucky.

Buckeyes in the Regional and National Rankings
The Buckeye women remained fifth in the Great Lakes regional rankings for the week of Oct. 6 by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), while the men’s team dropped a spot to No 11. The women are also ranked at No. 37 in the national poll.

Michigan checks-in at No. 1 both nationally and regionally on the women’s side. Second -ranked Michigan State is second in the region, followed by No. 15 Wisconsin, No. 28 Notre Dame and No. 37 Ohio State.

On the men’s side, ninth-ranked Wisconsin is the top-ranked team in the region, followed by No. 11 Michigan, No. 23 Indiana, No. 31 Michigan State and Notre Dame.

Last Time Out
The Ohio State women competed at the Notre Dame Invitational Friday, while the men ran Saturday at the Greater Louisville Classic.

At Notre Dame, Ohio State closed the meet with a team score of 184, finishing sixth out of 20 teams. The squad defeated three Top-40 teams and finished three points shy of fifth place and 30th-ranked Penn State.

The Buckeye men raced to an eighth-place team finish at Louisville. The Buckeyes were led at the 8k event by freshman Nick Elswick, who placed 29th overall.

OSU closed the meet with a team score of 247. No. 11 Wisconsin placed five runners in the Top 20 to capture the team title with a score of 56. A total of 28 teams and 250 athletes competed.
