COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State junior Mike Nugent is one of 30 players on the preseason Lou Groza Award watch list. The award goes to the top kicker in college football and is named after former Ohio State player and NFL great Lou Groza. The current list will be cut to 20 semi-finalists on Nov. 3 and then pared to three finalists on Nov. 17. The winner will be announced in December.

Nugent was a finalist for the award last year, when he set nine school records and won first-team recognition on the Associated Press, Football Writers and Walter Camp All-America teams.

Nugent led the Buckeyes in scoring last year with 120 points, the most ever by an OSU kicker. He is the first Ohio State place kicker to win first-team All-America honors. The 5-10, 170-pound native of Centerville, O. made 25 of 28 field goals last year, including 23 in a row to begin the season. He heads into the current season with a school-record 15 consecutive field goals made in Ohio Stadium. The Buckeyes play their first five games at home this year.
