COLUMBUS, Ohio– The Ohio State wrestling Buckeyes handed the visiting Hoosiers of Indiana a 28-11 defeat at St. John Arena Sunday in a battle of Big Ten foes. The No. 9 Buckeyes, after capturing their 13th-consecutive win, raised their record to 13-3 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the conference. No. 20 IU slipped to 13-3 overall as well and fell to 1-2 in the Big Ten.

“We wrestled well today,” Russ Hellickson, OSU head coach said. “We controlled most of the matches but we also let some get away from us. We showed a great balance and got the win.”

In the early going, IU and OSU split the first four matches with two wins each and IU holding a slim 7-6 lead. No. 1 Tommy Rowlands (Fr., Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Ready) won his heavyweight bout, an 11-6 decision over Mike Dixon, to give OSU the first back-to-back victories by either team on the day. IU’s No. 17 Greg Schaefer answered back with a 13-3 major decision over Kore Sharpley (Sr., Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) at 125 pounds, but the Buckeyes secured the dual with four wins by four different methods.

In the 133 match, No. 19 Jeff Ratliff (Fr., Marion, Ohio/Marion Harding) scored an 8-1 decision, followed by No. 6 Robert Sessley’s (Jr., Columbus, Ohio/Beechcroft) win by forfeit at 141. No. 16 Keaton Anderson made it three-consecutive wins with a 16-4 major decision over Gabe Cook which led to Josh Janson’s (So., Loveland, Ohio/Moeller) win by fall over Alex LaPointe at 2:03. The fall was Janson’s second in as many matches and brings his team-high total to eight.

The Buckeyes will return to action for their final home duals of the season when they play host to No. 8 Michigan State at 7:30 p.m. Friday and the Northwestern Wildcats at 2 p.m. Sunday. During an intermission period of the OSU-NU dual, members of the 1951 Big Ten Championship team will be honored for their accomplishment. The awards will celebrate the 50th anniversary of OSU’s first, and only, Big Ten crown in wrestling.
