COLUMBUS, Ohio– The No. 9 Ohio State wrestling Buckeyes traveled to No. 17 Penn State and handed the host Nittany Lions a 24-9 defeat at Rec Hall at University Park, Pa., Friday. OSU’s record improved to 12-3 overall and remained perfect in the Big Ten at 2-0. PSU’s record fell to 5-6 overall and 0-1 in the Big Ten.

The Buckeyes used victories in their first three matches and jumped out to a 9-0 lead. No. 4 Nick Preston (Jr., Columbus, Ohio/DeSales) scored an escape with nine seconds remaining in double-overtime to score a 6-5 decision over Pete Mielnik at 197 and gave OSU a 3-0 lead. No. 1 Tommy Rowlands (Fr., Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Ready), at 285, and Kore Sharpley (Sr., Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights), at 125, followed Preston’s lead by scoring 9-4 and 6-4 wins by decision, respectively.

Josh Janson (Jr., Loveland, Ohio/Cincinnati Moeller) was the lone Buckeye involved in a match won by decision as he pinned his opponent, Aaron Wright, at 2:35 in the 157 bout. No. 16 Keaton Anderson (So., Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington), John Clark (Fr., Canton, N.Y./Canton) and Ryan Hieber (Fr., Galion, Ohio/Galion) also recorded wins for the Buckeyes at 149, 165 and 174, respectively.

OSU will look to continue it winning ways when it plays host to No. 20 Indiana at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. John Arena.
