STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The ninth-ranked Ohio State field hockey team fell to No. 6 Penn State by a score of 2-0 Saturday. The game was the first time the Buckeyes have been held scoreless by an opponent all season. Ohio State is now 13-4 overall, 3-2 in the Big Ten. Penn State moves to 16-1, 5-0 in conference games.
The Nittany Lions scored both of their goals in the first half, getting on the board 6:30 into the game on a goal by Ali Scola. She was assisted by Annelise Legel. Penn State then upped the score to 2-0 when Mallory Weisen scored on a penalty shot at 33:25.
Ohio State registered two shots on goal with one each by junior Curlyne Wynn (Trincity, Trinidad and Tobago/North Eastern College) and sophomore Yesenia Luces (Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Joseph’s Convent). Senior Lucy Clayton (Scarborough, England/Scarborough College) led the team with three shots. Penn State had a slight edge in shots at 8-7.
Senior goalkeeper Lindsay Williams (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township) had three saves on five shots. Megan Akstin stopped both shots faced for the shutout.
The Buckeyes will next play Lock Haven on Sunday at 12 p.m. in State College, Pa.
