COLUMBUS, Ohio- The No. 7 Ohio State wrestling team remained undefeated after successfully sweeping the competition at the Clarion Duals in Clarion, Pa., Saturday. The Buckeyes (6-0 overall, 0-0 Big Ten) scored victories over intrastate rival Ohio, 32-4, host Clarion, 45-0, and No. 11 Lock Haven, 28-11, at the W.S. Tippin Gym on the campus of CU.

The Buckeyes finished the day with seven of its 11 wrestlers going a perfect 3-0 in their respective duals led by heavyweight Tommy Rowlands (So., Hilliard, Ohio/Bishop Ready). Rowlands, ranked No. 2 in the nation, won two matches by technical fall and the third by pinfall. Jeff Ratliff (So., Marion, Ohio/Marion Harding) at 133, Josh Janson (Sr., Loveland, Ohio/Moeller) at 157, John Clark (So., Canton, N.Y./Canton) at 165, Ryan Hieber (So., Galion, Ohio/Galion) at 174, Anton Talamantes (Jr., Ft. Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) at 184 and Nick Preston (Sr., Columbus, Ohio/DeSales) at 197 combined to go 21-0 with seven wins by major decision, four by technical fall and two by pinfall.

In the first dual of the day, OSU jumped out to an early 22-0 lead on the Bobcats (0-4) by winning the first six matches and capturing victories in the final three of the dual. Talamantes got the Buckeyes going early with a major decision win with Rowlands and Ratliff adding to the team total with a technical fall and major decision, respectively. Jesse Leng (So., Hinckley, Ohio/Highland), at 125, and Josh Daugherty (Jr., Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne), at 141, also added to the lead in the early going with wins by decision. The Buckeyes next tangled with the Golden Eagles of CU (0-4) and dominated the dual by claiming victory at all 10 weights en route to the shut out. Rowlands was joined by Daugherty and Hieber with pinfall wins to add six points apiece to the team totals. The win for Hieber was the first since his return from injury. Also contributing to the win were Talamantes and Clark with technical falls over their CU opponents. Ratliff scored the biggest win of the match with a 10-4 upset of No. 6 Rad Martinez at 133. Ratliff is 9-2 on the year and a perfect 6-0 in duals.

The main event of the duals was a battle between Top 15 teams when OSU met No. 11 LHU (7-1) in the last dual of the day. The Buckeyes opened an early 11-0 lead with wins by Talamantes (decision), Preston (decision) and Rowlands (technical fall) before the strength of the Bald Eagles’ line up took the mat. LHU won at 125, 141 and 149 to cut the deficit to 15-11 before wins by Janson (decision), Clark (injury default) and Hieber (major decision) sealed the win for the Buckeyes and sent LHU to its first defeat of the season.

Next up for OSU, following the holiday break, is the Midlands Tournament, Dec. 29-30 in Evanston, Ill., on the campus of Northwestern University. The Buckeyes first home dual of the year is Jan. 5 at the Buckeye Duals. The action starts at noon at St. John Arena when OSU takes on Buffalo.
