COLUMBUS, Ohio – The seventh-ranked Ohio State (21-1 overall, 11-1 Big Ten) women’s volleyball team defeated Indiana 3-0 (30-20, 30-20, 30-20) in home win Sunday afternoon in St. John Arena. Buckeye Stacey Gordon (Sr., Oshawa, Ontario) scored a match-high 23 points against the Hoosiers with Danielle Meyer (Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio) adding 14.5. Gordon recorded a match-high 20 kills (.359), adding an ace serve, a solo block and two assists. Meyer had 11 kills (.308) and added seven assist blocks. Indiana’s Katie Pollom scored a team-high 11.5 points (10 kills and three assist blocks) with Christin Archibald adding 9.5 (six kills, two ace serves, one solo and one assist block). Ohio State leads the Big Ten Conference after Minnesota’s 3-2 loss at Wisconsin. Minnesota is now tied for second with Penn State at 10-2.

Ohio State, from a four-all tie, took a 7-4 lead with an Indiana error, a Meyer-Briana McCarthy (So., Beaver Dam, Wis.) block and a McCarthy kill. At 10-7, kills from Ami Stevens (Fr., Centerburg, Ohio) and Gordon and an ace from Stevens opened a 13-7 lead. Leading 15-10, a six-point Buckeye run gave OSU a 19-10 lead. Gordon had three kills in the run along with kills from Marisa Main (So., Louisville, Ky.) and Meyer and an ace from Brittany Dahms (Fr., Byron, Ill.). With a 26-20 margin, two Gordon kills and a Meyer-McCarthy block set game point at 29-20. An Anna Tengnas (So., Torsaberga, Sweden) ace serve ended the game at 30-20. Ohio State hit .245 for the game to .122 for Indiana. The Buckeyes opened game two with a 2-0 lead off an Indiana error and a solo block by Gordon. A Buckeye service error made it 2-1. Kills by Gordon and Meyer, a Dahms ace and an Indiana error made it 6-1. OSU held the lead and with a Hoosier service error won the game, 30-20. The Buckeyes hit .258 for the game to .061 for Indiana.

Tied at six in game three, a Lauren Ditteon kill and two ace serves from Archibald put Indiana ahead, 9-6. With Indiana leading, 10-8, kills by Tasha Arsenych and Pollom and an OSU error made the Hoosier lead five at 13-8. At 14-9, a five-point Buckeye run would tie the game at 14. Kills from Gordon and Meyer, two Indiana errors and a Meyer-McCarthy block completed the run. The run continued with kills from Gordon and Meyer and a Gordon-Meyer block to put Ohio State ahead, 17-14. The Buckeyes won the game, 30-20, off an Indiana service error to end the match. OSU hit .371 in the game to .033 for Indiana.

For the match, Ohio State hit .287 to .077 for Indiana. The Buckeyes had a 52-30 margin in kills and an eight-four advantage in ace serves. OSU’s Dahms recorded a career-high three ace serves. Defensively, Ohio State had a 44-35 advantage in digs and out blocked Indiana, nine to eight. For the Buckeyes, Meyer had a match-high seven assist blocks. Main produced 41 assists in the match to Arsenych’s 22.

Ohio State returns to the road next week to face Iowa Friday, Nov. 5 and second-ranked Minnesota Saturday, Nov. 6.
