COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 6-seed Ohio State softball (34-22; 8-11 Big Ten) semifinal game of the 2004 Big Ten Tournament vs. No. 2-seed Illinois (40-18; 14-6 Big Ten) is postponed because of inclement weather until approximately 9:45 a.m. Saturday at Alumni Field in Ann Arbor, Mich. The semifinal Buckeye-Fighting Illini game was originally supposed to begin at 5 p.m. Friday, followed by the second semifinal game between No. 8 Michigan State and the winner of the No. 4 Northwestern vs. No. 5 Minnesota game.
Minnesota led Northwestern 2-0 with one out at the top of the seventh inning before the game was postponed because of the weather. The NU-UM game will be finished at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning and the Ohio State-Illinois game will begin immediately afterwards.
The Buckeyes earned a trip to the semifinals by upsetting No. 3 Iowa, 5-1, earlier Friday afternoon; Illinois beat No. 7 Penn State, 1-0, Thursday, to advance to the semifinals. The winner of the Buckeye-Fighting Illini game will play in the championship game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The championship game will be broadcast by CSTV.
