CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 4 Ohio State rowing team won nine of 10 races Saturday at the Clemson Invitational. The First Varsity Eight, First Varsity Four, Second Varsity Four and First Novice Eight each swept through their three races of the competition.
The First Varsity Eight consisting of Anjali Fernandes, Ida Kruse, Alexandra Northdurft, Rachel Engel, Cassandra Johnson, Ida Petersen, Alessandra Montesano, Bridget Schodorf and Alice Riley then closed out the session with a win at 6:32.78, edging Washington State at 6:38.07. In the finals, the Buckeyes posted a 6:10.89 to best USC at 6:12.65 to win the Varsity Eight.
The Second Varsity Eight of Emma Warns, Leonie Heuer, Kaylee Koker, Maddie Perrett, Morgan Hummel, Sierra Cydrus, Chelsea Harpool, Kimberleigh Warriner and Ashley Saba posted a 6:39.78, topping the rest of the field by almost nine seconds in the opening session before notching a 6:20.79 as it was narrowly edged by Virginia by three seconds in the finals.
The First Varsity Four – Sophie Blair, Magdalena Bravo, Stephanie Gase, Rose Carr and Anne Jachthuber – won its morning heat at 7:10.62, 7.5 seconds in front of runner-up Duke. The group then took the finals at 6:59.97, more than five seconds in front of Indiana.
Up next, the Second Varsity Four consisting of Helen Sudhoff, Kendell Massier, Rachel Serafy, Hannah Hites and Catherine McNuttfinished in 7:16.97, ahead of second-place Syracuse at 7:28.76, before going 7:11.96 in the finals, to take that heat by almost five seconds over Virginia.
The First Novice Eight of Sam Morrison, Julia Miklasevich, Rachel Dewitte, Micheala Nordhaus, Ally Hatton, Megan Cymanski, Alex Warning, Cailly O’Toole and Lena Harper then closed out the session with a 6:36.94 to top UCLA by almost eight seconds. The group then won the finals with a 6:32.35, more than four seconds ahead of second-place Washington State.
The Buckeyes return home to host Duke and Notre Dame next Saturday at Griggs Reservoir.
