%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio-Minnesota, the No. 3 seed in the 2002 Big Ten Men’s Tennis Tournament, defeated No. 6-seed Michigan, 4-0, Friday at the Stickney Tennis Center. Alex Zharinov clinched the match for the Golden Gophers by defeating the Wolverines’ Matt Lockin, 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 3 singles position.%^$

%^$Minnesota earned the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and 2 positions. Harsh Mankad and Thomas Haug defeated Chris Shaya and Brett Baudinet, 8-3. Manuel Lievano and Reven Stephens defeated Henry Beam and Matt Lockin, 8-5.%^$

%^$In singles action, Minnesota had victories at the Nos. 2, 3, and 6 positions. Minnesota’s Thomas Haug downed Michigan’s Ben Cox, 6-2, 6-1. Minnesota’s Avery Ticer defeated Michigan’s Joseph Fisher, 3-2, 2-2.%^$

%^$The Golden Gophers advance to face No. 2 Ohio State at 2 p.m. Saturday in semifinal action at Stickney Tennis Center, weather permitting. Minnesota and Ohio State will play at 4 p.m. if the match is forced indoors.%^$
