“Michigan State played a great second half as they took us out of our game and once we were out, we were unable to get back into it,” Anne Wilkinson, Ohio State head coach, said. “In the second half, we were able to get a little more patience and finish on some of the corners.”
The first half was a defensive battle as only five shots were posted between both teams. OSU was unable to create any offense in the first half as the Buckeyes tallied one shot and failed to obtain a penalty corner. Michigan State recorded four shots and three penalty corners.
Michigan State stepped up its tempo in the second half scoring three goals in 19 minutes. MSU’s Alexandra Kyser scored an unassisted goal off a rebounded shot at 42:16. Kyser soon followed with her second goal of the game at 47:26. The Spartans’ final goal to secure the victory was on a penalty corner by Jessica Miller, assisted by Annebet Beerman at 61:16.
Senior forward Vanessa Immordino (Sr.; West Essex, N.J.) and junior midfielder Lucy Clayton (Jr.; Scarborough, England) lead the Buckeye offense as they each recorded two shots.
