COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State men’s gymnastics team compiled a national-high 220.5 to defeat Nebraska (212.35) in a co-ed dual meet Friday in St. John Arena. The Buckeyes as a team won every event and set season highs on all but vault to score 4.65 more points than their previous high (215.85) set in a dual match at Illinois Feb. 1. Sophomore Randy Monahan (Elizabethtown, Pa.), the only Buckeye to compete in all-around, took first with a career-high 54.0 points.

A Buckeye took first in every event except rings. Sophomore Kerry Adderly (Orlando, Fla.) set career highs on all of his events and placed first in four: floor with a 9.45, vault with a 9.5, parallel bars with a 9.05 and high bar with a 9.45. His 9.15 on rings was a career high and a fourth-place finish.

Senior Ryan Schwartzkopf (Columbus, Ohio) scored 9.55 points on pommel horse to take first place. Matt Smith (Sr./Salt Lake City, Utah) was the highest placing Buckeye on rings with 9.30 points at third place. Senior Raj Bhavsar (Houston, Texas) appeared in his first dual meet of the season, competing on floor (8.65), pommel horse (9.45) and vault (9.2).

“Last week, the gymnast who went to the Winter Cup had a rough meet,” Adderly said. “We got back in the gym and came up big. This is only the middle of the season; we still have a long way to go. There were so many little things were we could have scored better, we have a lot to work on.”

“We take every day to prepare for the end of the season,” Miles Avery, OSU head coach, said. “We are going back to the gym and continue to work. We want to put the best possible team on the floor by the Big Ten and NCAA tournaments. We still have a long way to go and it is only the middle of the season.” Next, Ohio State faces No. 1 Penn State at 7 p.m. Saturday in State College, Pa.
