COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s gymnastics team posted a season-high 215.85 to defeat Illinois Saturday in Champaign, Ill. Illinois improved their score form 207.05 to 212.3 in the losing effort. Illini Adam Pummer won the all-around with a score of 53.05. Randy Monahan (Elizabethtown, Pa.) scored 52.4 and Dick Huntwork (Pickerington, Ohio) complied a career-high 52.15 to round out the Top-3 all-around. The Buckeyes advance their record to 7-0, 5-0 in the Big Ten.

Ohio State improved 5.2 points over its last outing against Illinois-Chicago where they compiled a season low 110.65. The Buckeyes posted season-highs on floor (36.35), vault (36.7), parallel bars (35.45), high bar (35.65) and all-around.

Ohio State had an individual on top of every event. Huntwork’s season high 9.45 on floor took first-place where the Buckeyes held 6-of-7 top scores. Ryan Schwartzkopf (Columbus, Ind.), a pommel horse specialist, posted a 9.65 on his event and took first-place. Monahan took first on rings with a 9.3, which tied his career-high for the event. On vault, Cody Trobaugh (Dallas, Texas) scored a 9.45 and placed first. Freshman Ronald Ferris (Austintown, Ohio) placed first on parallel bars with a career-high 9.15. Monahan’s 9.2 on high bar rounded out the first-place sweep for the Buckeyes.

The Buckeyes travel to Las Vegas to compete in the Winter Cup Challenge Feb. 7-8.
