COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 25th ranked Ohio State (16-7, 6-7 Big Ten) women’s volleyball team won a 3-0 (30-20, 30-19, 30-20) victory over Indiana (10-15, 1-12) Friday night in St. John Arena. OSU’s Danielle Meyer (Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio) scored a match-high 20 points for the Buckeyes while Indiana’s Erica Short posted a team-high 16.5. Meyer recorded a match-high 16 kills with two solo blocks and four assist blocks. Short recorded a team-high 13 kills, adding three solo blocks and an assist block.

Tied at one in game one, two Indiana errors and a Buckeye block by Briana McCarthy (Sr., Beaver Dam, Wis.) and Meyer gave OSU a 4-1 lead. A Short kill made it 4-2. A second McCarthy-Meyer block and one from Meyer and Marisa Main (Sr., Louisville, Ky.) along with an Indiana kill by Annie Moddrell made it 6-3. Two Meyer kills and an ace serve by Ami Stevens (Jr., Centerburg, Ohio) gave the Buckeyes a 9-4 lead. Leading 17-11, a Hoosier error and three Meyer kills opened a 10-point Ohio State lead at 21-11. At 28-20, a Meyer kill set game point at 29-20 and with a McCarthy solo block, Ohio State won the game, 30-20. The Buckeyes hit .450 for the game to .163 for Indiana.

The Buckeyes opened game two with two kills from Stevens and one by Felicia Jones (Sr., Concord, Ont.) to lead 3-0. A McCarthy kill and three Ohio State errors cut the Buckeye lead to 4-3. Ohio State, with a five point run, took the score to 9-3. The run began with a kill and solo block by Meyer, a Meyer-Main block and two kills by Stevens. At 12-5, four OSU errors cut the lead to 12-9. At 13-10, two McCarthy kills and a Stevens-Jones block opened a 16-10 Buckeye lead. At 23-17, OSU kills from Jones and Stevens made it 25-17. A Gabrielle Allison kill made it 25-18. An Indiana error, kills from McCarthy and Stevens and an Ashley Kiel (Sr., Allenton, Wis.) ace serve took the lead to 11 at 29-18. A Moddrell kill stopped the Buckeye game point at 29-19. A McCarthy kill ended the game at 30-19, Ohio State, for a 2-0 lead in the match. Ohio State hit .389 for the game to .100 for Indiana. Tied at five in game three, a four-point Buckeye run opened a 9-5 Ohio State lead. Kills by Stevens and Main started the run, followed by an Indiana error and a second Main kill. At 11-6, OSU, a Buckeye error, a Short solo block and an Allison kill cut the lead to two at 11-9. At 12-10, a Jones kill, an Indiana error and a kill by Short made it 14-11, OSU. At 18-15, kills by Jones and Stevens and a McCarthy-Jones block made it 21-15. Emily Zulauf, with a kill, cut the lead to 21-16. A Stevens kill and a kill and solo block by McCarthy made it 24-16. An OSU error and a Short solo block cut the margin to 24-18. A McCarthy kill and an OSU error moved the score to 25-19. Meyer, with two kills, and Main with one took the lead to 28-19. A Short kill stopped the run at 28-20. Meyer set match point with a kill at 29-20. Stevens closed out the match with a kill for a 30-20 game three win, and secure a 3-0 victory for Ohio State in the match. The Buckeyes hit .409 in the game to .200 for Indiana.

Ohio State hit .417 for the match to .157 for Indiana. The Buckeyes had a 66-33 advantage in kills and a 3-0 margin in ace serves. The Buckeyes gave up four service errors to three for Indiana. Defensively, Ohio State had a 55-31 edge in digs with OSU’s Kiel recording a match-high 20. At the net, Ohio State had a 10-6 margin in team blocks. Meyer, for Ohio State, recorded a match-high six blocks with two solos and four assists. OSU setter Main had a match-high 49 assists in the contest. Indiana’s Allison Regas posted 16 assists and Caitlin Watts had 12.

Ohio State will host 14th-ranked Purdue (19-5, 9-4) Saturday at 7 p.m. in St. John Arena.
