No. 23 Buckeyes Sweep Doubleheader

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 23-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team topped two instate foes Tuesday in the Varsity Tennis Center, posting a 6-1 win over Dayton and a 7-0 victory vs. Bowling Green. Ohio State is now 7-4 on the season (1-1 B1G).

The Buckeyes won the doubles point in both matches and have now won the doubles point in nine of their 11 matches this year. The team combined for nine straight-set victories, along with two wins in a super tiebreaker. The lone singles loss of the day was in a super tiebreaker

Anna Sanford, Olivia Sneed and Mary Beth Hurley were all 2-0 in singles and added a doubles victory, while Andrea Ballinger and Emma DeCoste both posted two doubles victories and a singles win.

Ohio State vs. Dayton
The Buckeyes won the doubles point with victories on courts three and one. The tandem of Emma DeCoste and Andrea Ballinger was first complete, posting a 6-1 win over Anna Delaney and Kelly Pleiman. On court one, the 32nd-ranked duo of Anna Sanford and Shiori Fukukda won 6-2 over Marlys Bridgham and Mattea Kilstofte to clinch the doubles points. The Buckeye duo of Olivia Sneed and Mary Beth Hurley led 4-2 when play was halted.

Ohio State won the first give singles matches. Seniors Sneed and Sanford posted the first two victories. On court two, Sneed was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Kilstofte and Sanford followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Bridgham on court one. Hurley dropped just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 court five victory over Pleiman to secure the team victory.

The final three matches went to super tiebreakers. On court three Danielle Wolf rallied from a set down for a 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (4) win over Jade Kawamoto. Ballinger followed with a 6-0, 1-6, 1-0 (7) win over Natalie Allen on court six. The Falcons posted the last point, with Jackie Kawamoto topping DeCoste, 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (9).

Ohio State vs. Bowling Green
Ohio State started the match by winning the doubles point. On court three, freshmen Mary Beth Hurley and Emma DeCoste shut out Venesa Pardo and Marta Bettinelli. The duo of Olivia Sneed and Andrea Ballinger won 6-4 on court two for the doubles point. The match on court one was tied at five when the doubles point was clinched.

Danielle Wolf dropped just two games against Bettinelli on court four, winning 6-0, 6-2, and Sneed followed with a 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Sasaki on court three. Anna Sanford clinched the team win with a 6-3, 6-3 win on court one against Radeva. DeCoste was a 6-0, 6-3 winner over Pardo on court five and Hurley won 6-3, 6-1 against Theresa Wassmann at No. 6. The final win was a 6-1, 6-3 victory by Fukuda over Tavpash on court two to complete the shutout.
