COLUMBUS, Ohio— The Ohio State women’s tennis team won its first match of the spring season by defeating West Virginia, 7-0, in Pittsburgh, Penn. The match was the Mountaineers’ second of the season.

In singles, the Buckeyes won all but one match in straight sets. At No. 2, Monica Rincon (Jr., Lapeer, Mich.) rallied from one set down to defeat WVU’s Anna Marie Underwood (3-6, 6-4, 6-0). Ohio State’s Kristy Dascoli (Sr., Bradenton, Fla.), ranked No. 19, posted a 6-1, 6-1, victory over Helen Adams at No. 1.

The Buckeyes also swept the doubles matches. At No. 1, Dascoli and Rincon won the first eight points to shut out Katherine Agustsson and Courtney Howell, 8-0.

The No. 22 Buckeyes have the next couple of days off from competition before they travel to Milwaukee, Wis., to face Marquette Jan. 26 and Colorado Jan. 27.
