COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s gymnastics team travels to Bowling Green to take on the Falcons and Western Michigan at 2 p.m. Sunday.

The Buckeyes come into the meet ranked 21st nationally with an average team score of 194.375.

LAST TIME OUT
The Ohio State women’s gymnastics team tied Illinois with a season-high score of 195.350 Jan. 22 at St. John Arena. It was the Buckeyes’ highest team score since March 13 of last season against Auburn.

The Buckeyes posted season-highs on vault (49.125), balance beam (48.950) and floor exercise (49.125). Sarah Miller set a season-high with a 9.925 on floor after tying her season-best with a 9.875 on beam. Taylor Jones set a career-high and an Ohio State individual season-best on vault with a score of 9.875.

MILLER AGAIN NAMED TOP ROOKIE
Ohio State gymnast Sarah Miller was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the second time in three weeks, the conference office announced Jan. 24.

Miller placed first on balance beam and floor exercise in the Buckeyes’ tie against Illinois Jan. 22. The freshman tied her career-high with a 9.875 on beam and set a career best with a 9.925 on floor. Miller also tied for third with a 9.825 on vault.

BUCKEYES IN THE RANKINGS
Ohio State enters the week ranked 21st nationally and fifth in the Big Ten with an average team score of 194.375. The Buckeyes rank in the Top 25 in vault (19, 48.275), beam (t-12, 48.517) and floor (22, 48.650).

Colleen Dean and Sarah Miller each sit tied for 29th nationally with an average floor score of 9.833. Dean is tied for 26th nationally in the all-around with an average of 39.125.

SCOUTING THE FALCONS
Led by fourth-year head coach Kerrie Beach, Bowling Green enters the weekend with an average team score of 190.225. The Falcons are 1-1 on the season with a season-opening win over Illinois-Chicago before dropping a dual meet last weekend against Northern Illinois. Dawn Christman leads the Falcons in the all-around with an average score of 38.425.

The Buckeyes hold a 29-6 lead in the all-time series with Bowling Green.

SCOUTING THE BRONCOS
Under the direction of third-year head coach Dave Kuzara, Western Michigan has recorded an average team score of 192.733 this season after defeating Southeast Missouri 193.800-193.220 last weekend. Sophomore Caitlyn Sullivan leads the Broncos on vault and beam with average scores of  9.758 and 9.708, respectively.

Ohio State is 3-0 all-time against Western Michigan.

MILLER EARNS BIG TEN AWARD
Ohio State gymnast Sarah Miller earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors after helping the Buckeyes upset No. 23 Minnesota, the conference office announced Jan. 10. The award marks the first such honor for an Ohio State gymnast.

Miller, from Collegeville, Pa., took the event title on beam with a score of 9.875 while tying for second on vault at 9.800 and third on floor exercise at 9.750. The 9.875 beam score ranked third nationally over the first week of competition.

GYMNASTS TO WATCH
Senior Rebecca Best and freshman Sarah Miller were picked Gymnasts to Watch, as voted by the Big Ten coaches. A three-time All-Big Ten performer, Best finished fifth in the all-around at the 2010 Big Ten Championships and led the Buckeyes with an all-around RQS of 39.025. Miller competed as a Level 10 Gymnast for four years, was the 2009 Region 7 All-Around Champion and placed in the Top 10 on beam, floor and vault at the Junior Olympic National Qualifier.

The Buckeyes were picked tied for sixth in the Big Ten preseason coaches’ poll.
