Final Stats

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Behind Stacey Gordon’s (Sr., Oshawa, Ontario) 28.5 points, the Ohio State women’s volleyball team remained undefeated at 11-0 (1-0 Big Ten) with a 3-1 (30-20, 23-30, 30-18, 30-24) victory over Wisconsin (6-2, 0-1) Friday night in the Wisconsin Field House. The Ohio State win stopped a 14-match Wisconsin winning streak over the Buckeyes and is OSU’s first victory in Madison since 1995. Gordon had a match-high 27 kills, three assist blocks and added a season/match-high 20 digs for OSU. Buckeye Danielle Meyer (Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio) added 14.5 points with seven kills, four ace serves and seven assist blocks. Wisconsin’s Sheila Shaw scored a team-high 21.5 points with 18 kills, five assist blocks and an ace serve with Jill Odenthal adding 18 points with 17 kills and two assist blocks.

Tied at eight in game one, a Buckeye triple block by Briana McCarthy (So., Beaver Dam, Wis.), Meyer and Ami Stevens (Fr., Centerburg, Ohio) gave Ohio State a 9-8 lead. With Ohio State leading, 13-9, Wisconsin closed to within one at 15-14. At 19-16, five consecutive Buckeye kills opened up a 24-16 Buckeye lead. OSU closed out the match at 30-20 off a Badger service error. The Buckeyes hit .378 in the game to .216 for Wisconsin.

Wisconsin won game two, 30-23, while hitting .108 with OSU hitting -.024. Tied at 10, Wisconsin kills from Shaw, Odenthal and Marian Weidner gave the Badgers a 13-10 lead. OSU tied the game at 13 and 14 before an OSU service error and blocks by Shaw and Aubrey Meierotto and Jackie Simpson and Shaw made it 17-14, Wisconsin. The Badgers expanded the lead to win the game, 30-23.

Ohio State took a 10-4 lead in game three and continued to expand the lead going up 10 at 21-11. OSU’s Gordon scored four of Ohio State’s final five points with kills to win the game, 30-18. The Buckeyes hit .514 for the game to Wisconsin’s .135.

The Buckeyes held an early 3-0 lead in game four. At 10-7, Wisconsin rallied to tie the game at 10. Tied at 13, OSU regained the lead with a Badger service error. A Gordon kill and two from Marisa Main (So., Louisville, Ky.) opened a 17-13 Ohio State lead. Leading 28-23, two Gordon kills closed the match as OSU won the game, 30-24. For the game, Ohio State hit .375 to Wisconsin’s .312.

For the match Ohio State hit .299 to Wisconsin’s .201. The Buckeyes had a 69-54 advantage in kills and had a 6-2 margin in ace serves while the Badgers gave up 15 service errors to nine. OSU’s Danielle Meyer (Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio) scored a match-career-high four aces in the match. Defensively, Ohio State had a 70-53 advantage in digs with Gordon’s match-high 20. Badger Jocelyn Wack had a team-high 19 for Wisconsin. At the net, the Buckeyes had a 15 to 10.5 margin in team blocks. OSU’s Meyer recorded a match-high seven assist blocks for Ohio State. Main had a match-high 54 assists in the match to Wisconsin’s Jackie Simpson’s 40.

Ohio State continues on the road Saturday with a match at Northwestern (5-5, 0-1) at 8 p.m. ET. The Wildcats suffered a 3-0 (30-25, 30-24, 30-23) loss to No. 4 Penn State (10-0, 1-0).
