Columbus, Ohio — The No. 2 Ohio State men’s gymnastics team fell to No. 1 Penn State Saturday in the Bryce Jordan Center. After posting a national-high 220.5 Feb. 14 against Nebraska, the Buckeyes slipped 3.625 points to compile 216.875 points to the Nittany Lions’ season-high 220.00. OSU’s Randy Monahan (So., Elizabethtown, Pa) placed third in the all-around competition with a 53.25. Ohio State suffers its first loss of the season and is 8-1 overall (5-1 in the Big Ten) as Penn State improves to 11-0.

As a team, Ohio State came up short in every event except floor where it topped Penn State 36.550 to 35.650. The Buckeyes did not set a season-high on any of the events.

Kerry Adderly (So., Orlando, Fla.) had Ohio State’s only first-place finish with a career-high 9.550 on floor. Monahan set a career high on vault with a 9.450 landing him in second place. Jamey Houle (Jr., Enfield, Conn.) finished third on high bar with a team-season and career-high 9.625 points.

Ohio State will take the week off from competition before it faces No. 3 Oklahoma in Norman, Okla., at 7 p.m. March 7. The Sooners are the defending national champions.
