COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 19th-ranked Ohio State (15-6 overall, 8-4 Big Ten) women’s volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (30-24, 30-28, 30-24) decision to No. 11 Wisconsin (17-4, 9-3) Saturday night in St. John Arena. Buckeye Danielle Meyer (So., Cincinnati, Ohio) shared match-high point honors with Wisconsin’s Sheila Shaw with 15.5 each. Meyer had 15 kills and an assist block while Shaw posted 11 kills, two ace serves, a solo block and three assist blocks. OSU’s Nicole Britenriker (So., Cincinnati, Ohio) had 14.5 points (12 kills, five assist blocks) while Ami Stevens (So., Centerburg, Ohio) added 13 points (11 kills, one ace serve, two assist blocks) for the Buckeyes. Badger Audra Jeffers contributed 12 points with 11 kills and a solo block for Wisconsin.

After a Shaw kill opened game one, Ohio State took a 5-1 lead with a Meyer kill, two from Stevens, a Marisa Main (Jr., Louisville, Ky.)-Britenriker block and a Badger error. Trailing 10-6, Wisconsin tied the game at 10 with a Taylor Reineke kill, two OSU errors and a Shaw-Jackie Simpson block. Tied at 16, a Simpson kill and a solo block from Maria Carlini put Wisconsin ahead, 18-16. The Badgers reached game point at 29-23 off a Buckeye error. A Meyer kill stopped game point at 29-24 but an OSU error ended the game at 30-24. Wisconsin hit .256 in the game to .000 for Ohio State.

Ohio State again took an early lead in game two, scoring the first five points. Two Main kills, one from Stevens and two Wisconsin errors made it 5-0. The Buckeyes took the lead to eight at 11-3. Ohio State held a 24-21 lead when a Jeffers kill, a Shaw ace serve and an OSU error tied the game at 24. At 25-all, an Aubrey Meierotto kill gave Wisconsin a 26-25 lead. Two Buckeye errors made the Wisconsin lead three at 28-25. Kills from Britenriker and Amanda Miller (Sr., Littleton, Colo.) cut the lead to one at 28-27. A Meierotto kill set game point at 29-27. A Miller kill stopped the game point at 29-28 but a Reineke kill ended the game at 30-28. Wisconsin hit .308 in the game to .354 for the Buckeyes.

Tied at seven in game three, a Reineke kill and an OSU error gave Wisconsin a 9-7 lead. Trailing by four at 14-10, two kills from Stevens and one from Meyer cut the lead to 14-13. A Buckeye error made it 15-13. OSU tied the game at 15 with a kill from Stevens and a Badger error. A kill by Jeffers put Wisconsin ahead, 16-15. The Badgers would hold the lead and win the game on an OSU error at 30-24 to sweep the match. Wisconsin hit .271 for the game to .214 for the Buckeyes.

For the match, Wisconsin hit .278 to OSU’s .198. The Buckeyes had a 54-50 advantage in kills while Wisconsin held a five to two edge in ace serves. Ohio State gave up five service error to four for the Badgers. At the net, Ohio State held a 52-41 advantage in digs with Wisconsin’s Jocelyn Wack recording a match-high 14. At the net, the Badgers had an 11 to six margin in team blocks. Wisconsin’s Simpson collected a match-high six assist blocks. Simpson also recorded a match-high 44 assists while OSU’s Main had 42.

Ohio State return to the road for the next two weeks as they will play four consecutive matches away from St. John Arena. OSU begins the road trip with a Wednesday match at No. 3 Penn State at 8 p.m. The match will be carried live by CSTV (College Sports Television). The Buckeyes will complete the week by playing at Indiana Saturday at 7 p.m.
