COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 19th-ranked Ohio State (5-8 overall, 3-2 American Lacrosse Conference) women’s lacrosse team lost, 10-9, Sunday afternoon to Rutgers (5-8) in Piscataway, N.J. Buckeyes KC Carter (Jr., Birchrunville, Pa.), Kelly Kremer (Fr., Kennett Square, Pa.) and Regina Oliver (Sr., Pottstown, Pa.) scored two goals each for Ohio State. Rutgers’ Katie Batiuk produced a match-high six goals including the game winner for the Scarlet Knights with Jamie Farewell adding two.

Rutgers, with a free position goal by Anne Marchitell with 3:48 gone in the game and an unassisted goal by Batiuk at 5:32, took a 2-0 lead against Buckeyes. OSU’s Carter scored first for the Buckeyes at 5:52 with an assist from Ashley Evans (Sr., Ellicott City, Md.). Kremer’s goal at 10:16 with an assist from Andrea Fischer (Jr., Cleveland Heights, Ohio) tied the game at two. Lindsay Weiner (So., Eldersburg, Md.) gave Ohio State a 3-2 lead on an unassisted goal at 15:14. Batiuk scored at 16:20, unassisted, to tie the game at three. Rutgers took a 4-3 at 21:52 with a Kate Shomo goal, assisted by Jamie Farewell. Batiuk’s third goal of the game at 25:05 gave the Scarlet Knights a 5-3 halftime lead.

Ohio State’s Oliver opened the scoring in the second half at 35:05, assisted by Lindsay Weiner (So., Eldersburg, Md.). Batiuk scored at 36:30, unassisted, to put Rutgers ahead, 6-4. Ohio State responded with unassisted goals by Ashley Evans (Sr., Ellicott City, Md.) at 38:35 and Kristen Hannon (Fr., Sykesville, Md.) at 38:51 to tie the score at six. Kremer’s second goal, assisted by Fischer at 40:28 put the Buckeyes ahead, 7-6. With her second goal of the game, Oliver gave the Buckeyes a two-goal lead at 8-6 at 43:45 on a Fischer assist. Rutgers cut the lead to one at 8-7 on a Jamie Farewell goal at 47:14. Ohio State took a 9-7 lead at 53:22 with Carter’s second goal, unassisted. Batiuk’s fifth goal on a free position attempt at 54:52 cut the Ohio State lead to 9-8. Rutgers tied the game at nine at 55:54 on an unassisted goal by Farewell. The Scarlet Knights took the lead for good at 58:30 with a free position goal by Batiuk, her sixth, at 58:30. Rutgers held the lead to win the game, 10-9.

Rutgers goalie Lyndsey Feldman took the win (5-8), recording eight saves. OSU’s Kim Hastings (Jr., Sewickley, Pa.) had nine saves in the loss (5-8).

Ohio State returns home next Saturday to host 20th-ranked Stanford (10-5) at 1 p.m. in the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
