COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 18 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team fell to No. 22 Iowa, 196.175-195.525, Saturday afternoon at St. John Arena.
“I thought both teams performed well today but sometimes you just get beat,” Carey Fagan, Ohio State head coach, said. “Hopefully it’ll make the team more hungry when we get back to practice Monday. We have a big opportunity next weekend at Minnesota to get a good road score which would be huge for us.”
Through two rotations, the Buckeyes trailed Iowa, 97.750-97.600.
The Buckeyes then concluded the meet with a 48.875 on floor exercise in the final rotation. Mattern paced the Buckeyes with a 9.825 on the event.
Mattern finished second in the all-around with a 39.050.
The Buckeyes travel to Minneapolis to take on Minnesota at 5 p.m. ET Saturday.
