COLUMBUS, Ohio — Senior Cian Dabrowski led Ohio State with a game-high five goals and two assists and senior Katie Frederick recorded nine saves in goal as the 18th-ranked Buckeyes defeated Duquesne, 16-6, Sunday at Ohio Stadium. The win ups Ohio State’s record to 3-1 while Duquesne falls to 1-2.
Dabrowski also recorded six draw controls and classmate Rainey Hodgson recorded three goals and an assist. Sophomores Lauren Sherry and Molly Wood also added multiple goals with two apiece. Wood, the Big Ten leader in draw controls coming into the game, added five draws on the day.
Duquesne got on the board first 3:35 into the game on an unassisted goal by Kaelin Shaw. But it was all Buckeyes from that point on as Kelsey Gallagher’s unassisted goal 30 seconds later ignited a 7-0 run over the next 20 minutes — two goals coming from Sherry and two from Dabrowski. Both teams then scored twice in the final 5 minutes of the half and the Buckeyes led 9-3 at the break. Ohio State built its lead in large part by owning a 12-1 advantage on draws in the first half and 19-5 for the game.
Both teams were scoreless for nearly 7 minutes into the second half until Dabrowski scored at 23:05 for Ohio State’s 10th goal of the game. Freshman Erika Keselman then made it 11-3 a few minutes later as Ohio State’s starters went on to control the rest of the second half before giving way to some younger Buckeyes.
Sarah Kollhoff led Duquesne with two goals on the day.
Ohio State is back in action at 1 p.m. Saturday when it welcomes future Big Ten-foe Johns Hopkins to Columbus.
