COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 17-ranked Ohio State men’s lacrosse team (0-1, 0-0 GWLL) fell, 5-4, to No. 15 Penn State (1-0, 0-0 ECAC) Saturday afternoon in its season home opener at the North Turf Field in Columbus, Ohio. Junior captain Tom Randisi led the way for Ohio State with two goals, while two others – Anthony Geraldi and Ben Wolff each added a point.

Penn State’s Edmond Perry put the Nittany Lions on the board with an unassisted goal at 12:14 of the first quarter. Gilardi (Sr., Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) quickly responded with his own unassisted goal at 8:33. With the score tied at 1-all, Randisi (Jr., Towson, Md./Calvert Hall) scored an extra-man goal at the end of the first quarter to put the Buckeyes up 2-1 in what would be their only lead of the game.

Ohio State was unable to score in the second quarter as Penn State dominated the 15 minutes with goals by Will Jones and Nate Whitaker. The pair of goals put PSU up by two, notching the score at 3-2.

Penn State held the Buckeyes to another scoreless quarter in the third. Nittany Lion Charlie Perry posted the only goal in the last two minutes of the quarter.

OSU mounted a comeback with two consecutive goals in the final quarter as Wolff (So., Owings Md./Calvert Hall) scored his first goal at 11:01. Three minutes later, Randisi tallied his second goal of the game. The tie was broken at 5:53, as Greg Hale scored the game-winning goal. Despite their efforts, Ohio State was not able to add another goal, and the Buckeyes were defeated, 5-3.

In net, Tony Russo (Sr., Fallston, Md./Calvert Hall) had 7 saves for the Buckeyes. Josh LaGrow made 14 stops for the Nittany Lions.

The Buckeyes hit the road for two games, as they travel to face Navy at noon Feb. 28 in Annapolis, Md., and UMBC at 1 p.m. March 6 in Baltimore, Md.
