COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 16th-ranked Ohio State (10-4 overall, 3-2 American Lacrosse Conference) women’s lacrosse team defeated the Davidson Wildcats, 13-3, Sunday afternoon in windy Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. OSU’s 10th win of the season ties for the most wins in Buckeye history. Ohio State finished 10-5 in 1999.
Ohio State’s Megan Mirick (Sr., Burke Va.) took a pass off the opening draw and scored just six seconds into the game. The goal was her 54th point of the season and sets the Ohio State season points record previously held by Erin Andersen in 1999. Mirick would score three goals and add an assist in the game to raise the record to 57 (51 goals, 6 assists). Ohio State would add four more goals to take a 5-0 lead. Tracey Bounds (Jr., Ellicott City, Md.) made it 2-0 at 7:32. Mirick scored her second goal at 9:59 with an assist from Bounds. Lauren Cochran (Sr., Coatesville, Pa.) made it 4-0 at 12:08 on an assist from Bounds. Regina Oliver (Fr., Pottstown, Pa.) completed the scoring run with a score at 12:16, assisted by Kylee Reade (Sr., London, Ontario). Wildcat Sarah Otto (Sr., Greenwich, Conn.) stopped the scoring run with an unassisted goal at 15:06. The Buckeyes made it 6-1 with Mirick’s third goal at 21:33 with an assist from Bounds. Shannon Wilson (Jr., Sherkston, Ontario) closed out the first half scoring at 24:14 with a free position score for a 7-1 Ohio State lead.
Ohio State opened the second half with a Lauren Cochran goal at 34:55 with the fourth assist from Bounds. With a free position shot, Bounds raised the score to 9-1 at 36:59. Lauren Cochran scored her third goal of the game, with a Mirick assist, at 41:08. The Buckeyes took a 10-goal lead (11-1) with a Wilson goal at 41:29, assisted by Carrie Weatherill (So., Malvern, Pa.). Davidson scored at 31:16 on Sarah Otto’s free position shot, making the score 11-2. OSU’s Reade scored at 48:12 with an assist from Noemi Hites (So., Pleasanton, Calif.) and Alexia Vogler (Jr., Ellicott City, Md.) made it 13-2 at 48:43. Davidson’s Blair Otto (Sr., Greenwich, Conn.) made it 13-3 with the final goal of the game at 59:50 for a 13-3 Ohio State victory. Davidson’s Becca Nussbaum (So., S. Glastonbury, Conn.) had 19 saves in goal and gave up all 13 Buckeye goals. Erin Forquer started the game for Ohio State and had nine saves and gave up two goals in 57:05. Allison Blanton played the final 2:55 of the game and had two saves while giving up one goal.
OSU’s Tracey Bounds had a game-high six points with two goals and four assists for her second consecutive six-point game. Bounds had three goals and three assists against Penn State. OSU’s Mirick and Lauren Cochran had three goals each for OSU.
Ohio State will complete the regular season with a 1 p.m., Saturday, May 4 contest at Ohio (9-4, 1-3).
