Stanford is in second with 215 points, while North Carolina (177) is in fourth place.

“I thought we were pretty good,” head swimming coach Bill Dorenkott said. “We raced well this morning and I thought we would be a little bit quicker tonight. I guess that’s why were racing though, to figure out where we are right now. I love the fact that we have quality competition and our girls are racing head-to-head. We had good relays and our depth is showing. It was a good first day.”

The Buckeyes began the night on a solid start as junior Michelle Williams, senior Megan Detro, freshman Annie Jongekrijg and sophomore Aliena Schmidtke notched the team’s fastest time in the 200 free relay in 2012 to place fourth overall.

In the 500 freestyle, junior Alex Norris, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, finished seventh in the finals with an “NCAA B” time of 4:45.39. Her preliminary time of 4:45.14 was the best by a Buckeye this year. Junior Kelly Ann Baird also collected a top 2012 time of 4:47.83 to place ninth overall.

The Scarlet and Gray saw three members collect Top 10 finishes in the 200 individual medley. Senior Angela Severn led the pack with an NCAA “B” time and season-best mark of 2:00.73 for sixth overall. Senior Ashley Vance placed sixth with a time of 2:01.31, while senior Emily Creran notched a time of 2:01.43 for tenth place.
