COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 16 Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team continued to display some of its best performances of the season on day two of the finals of the 2012 Ohio State Invitational Saturday night at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The Buckeyes are in third place with 412 points, while Stanford (559) leads followed by Florida in second place (534).

“I thought the team rebounded great tonight in the finals after the morning preliminaries,” head coach Bill Dorenkott said. “We made a huge stride as a program this evening and we raced tough. We need to continue the momentum into the final two sessions tomorrow.”

The team began the evening sesssion with a Top 3 performance in the 200 medley relay by four OSU seniors. Kelsey Moran, Angela Severn, Shannon Draves and Megan Detro posted the fastest time in 2012 at 1:38.98 for third place overall in the final.

Draves, a native of Gilbertsville, Pa., continued the fast swimming for the Scarlet and Gray in the 100 butterfly, touching the wall with a season-best 53.54. The time also was an NCAA “B” standard. Junior Alex Norris had a top performance in the 200 freestyle, placing seventh with a season-best 1:47.61.

Severn posted an NCAA “B” time of 1:02.82 in the 100 breaststroke for ninth place. In the 100 backstroke, Moran cruised her way to a fourth-place finish with her top time this fall in the event at 53.50. Creran notched her second Top 10 performance of the evening, placing ninth overall with a time of 55.28.

Ohio State concluded the night with the 800 freestyle relay. Kelly Ann Baird, Michelle Williams, Katy Luchansky and Norris placed third in the event with a season-best 7:14.04.

In diving, junior Cheyenne Cousineau claimed the victory in the 1-meter springboard event, competing in a talented field of divers. Cousineau, who has claimed two Big Ten Divers of the Week honors this fall, tallied 293.70 points for the win.

“Cheyenne had a great prelim yesterday in the three-meter and came back strong today in the 1-meter to finish with a good day,” head diving coach Vince Panzano said. “Her best event is tomorrow on the 10-meter platform and we are looking forward to seeing her have a good day.”

The Buckeyes conclude the 2012 Ohio State invitational Sunday at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Preliminary competition begins at 9 a.m., while the finals will start at 3 p.m. Platform diving will begin approximately at 11 a.m. from the Ron O’Brien Diving Well.
