COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 15th-ranked Ohio State (18-11 overall, 6-5 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) men’s volleyball team picked up a 3-0 (30-24, 30-25, 30-19) victory at Lewis (10-18, 3-9) Friday night. OSU’s Andy Cole (Sr., Glendale, Wis.) scored a match-high 13 points to lead the Buckeyes with nine kills, two ace serves and four assist blocks. Mark Greaves (Sr., Fenton, Mo.) added 12.5 points with 12 kills and an assist block and Stuart Katz (5th/Sr., Port Washington, N.Y.) had 11 with nine kills and four assist blocks. Flyer Alex Vigansky collected a team-high 12 points for Lewis with 11 kills and two assist blocks. Drew Pickering added 10.5 points with 10 kills and an assist block.

A Flyers’ service error followed by a block by Greaves and Layne Dreven (Sr./Jr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) broke a 9-9 tie in game one, and the Buckeyes never trailed the remainder of the game to win, 30-24. The Buckeyes hit .385 for the game to .026 for Lewis.

Katz busted an 8-8 tie with a kill to put Buckeyes ahead for good in game two. Lewis managed to close to within three points at 19-16, but the Buckeyes used two kills, a block and an ace serve during a 4-1 spurt to take command of the game winning, 30-25. Ohio State hit .233 for the game to .206 for Lewis.

Ohio State rattled off three consecutive kills and never looked back en route to a 30-19 game three win to capture the match, 3-0. OSU hit .481 in the game to .059 for Lewis.

Ohio State hit .361 for the match to .093 for the Flyers. The Buckeyes had a 46-36 advantage in kills and a four-to-one edge in ace serves with OSU’s Cole and Robbie Klein (So./Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio) recording two aces each. Each team gave up 10 service errors. Defensively, the Buckeyes had a 31 to 16 advantage in digs. OSU’s Katz and Flyer Nick Perakes shared match-high honors with eight digs each. At the net, Ohio State enjoyed a 12 to six margin in team blocks. OSU’s Dreven collected a match-high six assist blocks in the match. Setter Daniel Mathews (So., Shorewood, Wis.) recorded a match-high 37 assists while Flyer David Taylor had 35. Ohio State completes the regular season Saturday at 7 p.m. when they play at Quincy (12-15, 3-8).
