ST. PAUL, Minn. – The No. 15 Ohio State men’s hockey team lost to No. 1-ranked and defending NCAA champion Minnesota, 7-2, in the US Hockey Hall of Fame Game at the Xcel Energy Center Saturday. The game was the season opener for both schools. OSU drops to 0-1-0 on the year and Minnesota moves to 1-0-0.

Umberger broke UM goalie Travis Weber’s shutout with a shorthanded goal at 11:01 after he stole the puck from a Gopher in the UM zone and beat Weber high from the right faceoff circle. Lee Spector scored the first goal of his Buckeye career at the 17:40 mark of the period, scoring unassisted from in front of the UM goal. UM had 12 shots on goal in the stanza, OSU 11. Betz made 44 saves on 51 Gopher shots in the game for the Buckeyes. Weber stopped 21-of-23 Buckeye shots.
