COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 15 Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team opened the 2013 portion of its dual meet season with a 171-102 win over Wright State Friday at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The Buckeyes improve to 5-1 with the win.

“We just wanted to knock the rust off a little bit in terms of racing,” Ohio State head coach Bill Dorenkott said. “This meet gave us a good opportunity to race for the first time in almost five weeks. We will back it up tomorrow against a good Toledo team.”

Ohio State’s 200-yard medley relay started things off as the quartet of Annie Gillig, Katy Luchansky, Reanna Dona and Ashley Vance touched the wall first in a time of 1:49.93.

Junior Kristyn Fulcher claimed the win in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:26.25, while senior Angela Severn notched first place in the 200 freestyle in 1:54.17.

In the 100 backstroke, the squad swept the Top 3 spots and was led by Vance, who earned a season-best 58.78 followed by Dona with a time of 58.80. Senior Emily Creran swam the 100 breaststroke for the first time this season and had great success, winning the event with a time of 1:06.94.

It marked the first time Norris has raced in the event since last season at the 2012 Big Ten Championships. In the 50 freestyle, junior Phoebe Cater posted first with a time of 24.25 followed by classmate Shannon Draves (24.48) and sophomore Kayla Hammerberg (25.01).

After a 15-minute break, Creran earned her second win of the night with a time of 53.23. Draves then swam the 200 backstroke for the first time this season and did not disappoint, earning first place in 2:03.90 – a personal best.

In the 200 breaststroke,  sophomore Lauren Davis earned her first win of the 2012-13 campaign in the event when she raced her way to first place with a time of 2:27.67 – a season-best for the second-year Buckeye.
