SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The No. 12 Ohio State men’s hockey team, behind three assists from Andrew Schembri, defeated Notre Dame, 4-1, Friday in the Joyce Center in a Central Collegiate Hockey Association matchup. Tom Fritsche and Matt Beaudoin each chipped in a power-play goal and an assist in the victory, as OSU was 3-for-6 with the man advantage.

The teams traded power-play goals to end the first period tied at 1. The Irish got on the board at 15:52, as Wes O’Neill scored with ND skating 5-on-3 and one of the Buckeye penalty killers without a stick. Ohio State scored with just 44 seconds remaining in the period to knot the score. Tom Fritsche’s (Fr., Parma, Ohio) shot snuck in from close range for his fourth goal of the season, assisted by Matt Beaudoin (So., Rock Forest, Quebec) and Andrew Schembri (So., Mississauga, Ontario). OSU was outshot in the period, 10-8.
OSU scored the only goal of the second period. The Buckeyes had the puck in the Irish zone most of the period, outshooting ND, 11-2.
Bryce Anderson (So., Waterloo, Iowa) gave OSU a two-goal lead with a power-play goal at 16:19, as he deflected a Schembri backhand pass over ND goalie David Brown’s right shoulder. Fritsche had the second assist, as he got the puck to Schembri at the side of the net. Beaudoin then made the score 4-1 with a power-play goal of his own, as he worked to put his own rebound over a sprawled Brown. Schembri also assisted on that score, for a career-best three helpers in the game, and Kenny Bernard (So., Sarnia, Ontario) had the second assist. Each team had seven shots on net in the period.
