COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 11th-ranked Ohio State (20-7 overall, 13-2 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) men’s volleyball team, behind 16 points from Mark Greaves (Jr., Fenton, Mo.) on 15 kills (.480) and two assist blocks, defeated Findlay (16-13, 6-10), 3-0 (30-25, 30-22, 30-16) Friday night in St. John Arena. OSU’s Mike Wauligman (Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio) added 11.5 points and Andy Cole (Jr., Glendale, Wis.) 11 in the match. Wauligman posted nine kills (.222), a solo block and an assist block while Cole had 10 kills (.364) and a solo block. Leading the Oilers was Jim Dziczkowski with 10 points from nine kills (.074) and two assist blocks.

Ohio State broke a 1-1 tie in game one with kills from Cole, Wauligman and Greaves to take a 4-1 lead. A Corey Oliver kill made it 4-2 before another Wauligman kill and two Findlay errors opened a 7-2 Ohio State lead. The Buckeyes held a 17-10 lead when an Oliver kill, a block from David Franklin and Dziczkowski and an OSU error cut the margin to 17-13. OSU, with a kill and ace serve from Wauligman, a Greaves kill and an Oiler error took the lead to 21-13. The Buckeye expanded the lead to nine at 25-16 and held off a 9-5 run by the Oilers, winning the game at 30-25 with a kill from Greaves. Ohio State hit .429 for the game to .172 for Findlay.

Findlay took a 1-0 lead in game two with a Franklin kill. Two Oiler errors and a kill from Greaves gave OSU a 3-1 lead. Oiler kills from Dziczkowski and Chris Keen tied the game at three. A Cole kill gave OSU a 4-3 lead but two Buckeye errors opened a 5-4 Findlay lead. Two Oiler errors, kills from Greaves and Daniel Mathews (Fr., Shorewood, Wis.) and a Brett Versen (So., Centerville, Ohio)-Mathews block gave OSU a 9-5 lead. The Buckeyes held the lead and closed out the game at 30-22 with a Versen kill. OSU hit .233 in the game to .025 for Findlay.

A Buckeye error and an Oliver kill opened game three at 2-0 in favor of Findlay. Kills by OSU’s Wauligman and Findlay’s Dziczkowski moved the score to 3-1. Two Cole kills tied the game at three. An Oliver kill and a Findlay error made it four-all. Kills by Wauligman and Greaves gave OSU a 6-4 lead. A C.J. Macias kill cut the margin to 6-5. Greaves and Oliver exchanged kill to make the score, 7-6. The Buckeyes then scored the next six points to open a 13-6 lead. The run began with kills from Wauligman and Versen and an Oiler error. Kills from Greaves and Cole and a Wauligman solo block completed the run. The Buckeyes expanded the lead to 14 at 28-14 and a Versen kill closed out the game at 30-16. Ohio State hit .452 in the game to .028 for Findlay.

Ohio State hit .371 for the match to .067 for Findlay. The Buckeyes had a 47-34 margin in kills while each squad recorded one ace serve. The Oilers gave up 13 service errors to 10 for Ohio State. Defensively, Ohio State had a 33-22 advantage in digs with OSU’s Mathews and Conor Martin (Fr., Avon Lake, Ohio) sharing match-high honors with eight each. At the net, the Buckeyes had a 12 to six margin in team blocks. OSU’s Mathews had a match-high seven with a solo and six assists while Versen added six assists. Mathews produced a match-high 39 assists for the Buckeyes while Keen had 30 for the Oilers.

Ohio State closes out the regular season with a road match at IPFW Saturday at 7 p.m.
