COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 10 Ohio State women’s ice hockey team lost to No. 5 Wisconsin, 8-2, in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink in Columbus, Ohio, in front of 457 fans on the Buckeyes’ senior night. OSU dropped to 14-13-3 on the year and 10-12-2 in the WCHA. The Badgers moved to 22-5-3 overall and 16-5-1 in conference action as they completed the two-game sweep of the Buckeyes.

Wisconsin opened the scoring with a goal by Amy Vermeulen 15:14 into the game. Ohio State then scored back-to-back goals to tie the game and take the lead. Jeni Creary (Jr., Shell Lake, Saskatchewan) scored a power-play goal at 17:55, assisted by Jeanne Chapple (Sr., Vadnais Heights, Minn.) and Amber Bowman (Fr., Innisfil, Ontario). Erin O’Grady gave OSU the lead just 30 seconds later, assisted by Jana Harrigan (So., Burlington, Ontario) and Meahan Mulvaney (Jr., Sylvania, Ohio). Wisconsin then tied the game with a power-play goal by Lindsay Macy with 22 seconds remaining in the stanza. The Badgers outshot the Buckeyes in the period, 13-8.

The Badgers dominated the second period, outscoring Ohio State, 4-0. Jackie Friesen tallied at 3:07, followed by two Sharon Cole goals just 17 seconds apart at 8:02 and 8:19. Macy ended the scoring with 51 seconds left in the period. Wisconsin put 19 shots on net in the period, while the Buckeyes had six .

In the third, Wisconsin’s Karen Rickard scored 50 seconds in and Grace Hutchins tallied at 14:56 for the 8-2 final. OSU was outshot in the period, 11-8.

Ohio State freshman goaltender Erika Vanderveer (Bradford, Ontario) played all 60 minutes in net, making 35 saves on 43 UW shots, two shy of her career best. Meghan Horras played 59:56, stopping 20-of-22 shots.

Each team was 1-for-4 on the power play in the game, as each squad was assessed four penalties for eight minutes.

The game vs. the Badgers ends the Buckeyes’ WCHA regular-season slate. Ohio State closes out its regular season with a two-game series against Findlay next weekend. The Buckeyes and Oilers will meet in Findlay, Ohio, at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 5 and will face off in Columbus, Ohio, at 2:05 p.m. Saturday, March 6.

Notes –
– The 457 fans in attendance marked the fourth-highest crowd in program history at the OSU Ice Rink. Friday, a season-high 489 fans were in attendance, which ranked third all-time in the OSU record books.
– Wisconsin’s sweep of Ohio State was the first time the Buckeyes lost both games on a weekend since they were swept at home by Minnesota-Duluth Oct. 24-25, 2003.
– The contest marked the 100th career game for Buckeye juniors Meaghan Mulvaney and Jeni Creary.
– The Buckeyes’ five seniors – Erin O’Grady, Jeanne Chapple, Heather Farrell, Melissa Pirie and Emma Laaksonen – were honored in pregame ceremonies.
– With her goal vs. the Badgers, Creary moved within one point of the OSU career record for career points (98). Shana Frost is OSU’s all-time leader in career points.
