COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 10 Ohio State women’s ice hockey team fell to WCHA foe St. Cloud State, 4-2, Friday afternoon at National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.

With the loss, Ohio State fell to 12-12-1 overall and 9-12-0 in the WCHA. St. Cloud State improves to 7-15-2 overall and 5-12-2 in the WCHA.

The Buckeyes and Huskies complete the series at 3:05 p.m. Saturday in the National Hockey Center.

Both teams skated to a scoreless first period. St. Cloud State tallied seven shots to Ohio State’s six in the stanza.

Ohio State got on the scoreboard first with an early goal, but St. Cloud State followed with two goals to take the lead in the second period. Sophomore Tessa Bonhomme (Sudbury, Ontario) scored on a give and go from junior Jana Harrigan (Burlington, Ontario) at 54 seconds. Freshman Mallory Peckels (Minocqua, Wis.) also assisted on the goal. St. Cloud State tied the game at 8:21, when Ashley Stewart scored on a wrap around goal from behind the net at 8:21. The Huskies took the lead four minutes later as Randie Jelinski scored an unassisted goal. SCSU outshot OSU 17-8 in the second stanza.

In the third period, St. Cloud State scored two goals to take a 4-1 lead. The Huskies first goal came early in the stanza, when Hailey Clarkson scored a goal at 3:58. The Huskies’ Tina Ciraulo secured the victory with a goal at 9:23. OSU junior Crystal Sayther (Burnsville, Minn.) scored her fourth goal of the season on a fake at 17:01. Freshman Pamela Patterson (Miramichi, New Brunswick) and sophomore Katie Maroney (La Porte, Ind.) assisted on the goal. Ohio State called a timeout and pulled its goalie with 1:12 remaining. With the extra-skater, the Buckeyes could not capitalize. The Buckeyes outshot the Huskies 18-9 in the stanza.

Ohio State goalie Erika Vanderveer (So., Bradford, Ontario) recorded 29 saves in 58:48 minutes of action. St. Cloud State’s goalie Lauri St. Jacques posted 30 saves in 59:56 of action.

St. Cloud State outshot the Buckeyes 33-32. Both teams were scoreless on each of their power-play chances.

Notes

With her one assist, Jana Harrigan extended her point streak to eight games this season. During her stretch Harrigan has posted four goals and 11 assists for 15 points.

Freshman Mallory Peckels ended a seven-game drought as she posted an assist, marking her eighth assist of the season.

Ohio State’s two penalties marked the fewest the team has recorded all season.
