COLUMBUS, Ohio – %^$The No. 22 Ohio State women’s tennis team fell to No. 4-seed Minnesota, 4-2, in the semifinals of the Big Ten Championship at the Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, Mich. today. The Buckeyes, the No. 1 seed in the tournament, fall to 17-7 on the season, while Minnesota improved to 18-5 overall. The Gophers will face Northwestern in the tournament final, Sunday at noon.%^$

%^$ Ohio State opened the match by winning two doubles matches to claim the doubles point. The Buckeyes’ No. 20-ranked duo of Kristy Dascoli (Jr., Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Academy) and Monica Rincon (So., Lapeer, Mich./Lapeer West) defeated Minnesota’s Sandra Olsen and Michaela Havelkova, 8-2, at No. 1, while the tandem of Laura Maloney (Jr., Barrington, Ill.) and Sadhaf Pervez (Fr., Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) posted a win at No. 2 over Kim Simonsen and Tammy Wang.%^$

%^$ The Gophers won four singles matches to earn the victory. Pervez posted the only singles wins for the Buckeyes, as she won at No. 4 over Amy Thomas. Maloney suffered a three-set loss at No. 5 to the Gophers’ Havelkova, while Rincon lost at No. 2, Michelle Matko (So., Aurora, Ill./Aurora West) fell at No. 3 and Taryn Bowen (Fr., Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) was defeated at No. 6. Dascoli’s match at No. 1 against Nora Sauska was abandoned after the Gophers clinched the victory.%^$
