COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State senior left-handed pitcher Josh Newman has been named the Big Ten Baseball Co-Pitcher of the Week after leading the Buckeyes to a 3-1 victory against Penn State in the series opener Saturday, the league office announced Tuesday.

Newman picked up career win No. 31 holding the Nittany Lions to one unearned run on four hits while striking out eight to give him 82 strikeouts in 79.1 innings this season. The win improved him to 7-4 on the year and kept pace with teammate Mike Madsen for the lead in the conference. The co-captain from Wheelersburg, Ohio (Wheelersburg) lowered his ERA to 3.86 after winning his last two starts. Newman collects pitcher of the week accolades for the second time this season, as he also split the honor March 16.

The Buckeyes return to action at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday when they play host to the Akron Zips in the final Buck-A-Burger Night of the season. Ohio State will welcome Northwestern to Bill Davis Stadium for its final Big Ten home series of the season. The teams will open the slate at 6:35 p.m. Friday continue with a doubleheader at 4:05 p.m. Saturday before concluding the series at 1:05 p.m. Sunday.
