COLUMBUS, Ohio-The Ohio State Department of Athletics recognized several remarkable accomplishments achieved by winter sports teams and individuals during a halftime ceremony Monday in the men’s basketball NIT victory over Cal in St. John Arena.  

The fencing team was recognized first for its 2008 NCAA National Championship, won on the same floor at St. John Arena. Andras Horanyi, a junior from Boulder, Colo., also gold in the men’s foil. The title was the 57th team national championship in Ohio State history.

Several individual national champions also were announced before the sellout crowd Monday. Seth Berglee, a junior from Billings, Mont., and Teresa Meyer, a senior from Dearborn, Mich., won individual national titles for the pistol team, which finished second nationally. Meyer is a seven-time national champion for the Buckeyes while Berglee has two individual titles.

In diving, Ohio State played host to the 2008 national championship meet at McCorkle Aquatics Pavilion. Chelsea Davis, a junior from Columbus, won the national title in the three-meter event with teammate Bianca Alvarez, a freshman from Miami, Fla., taking second.

Saturday, wrestling placed second nationally, its best finish in program history, in St. Louis. J Jaggers, a junior from Northfield, Ohio, won the individual national title at 141 pounds as did teammate Mike Pucillo, a 184-pound sophomore from Cuyahoga, Ohio. J.D. Bergman, a senior from Oak Harbor, Ohio, went to overtime in the heavyweight national title match but fell just short of Dustin Fox of Northwestern, 4-2.
