COLUMBUS, Ohio – Natalie Spooner, a junior forward on the Ohio State women’s hockey team, was named to All-WCHA second team, the conference announced last week. This is Spooner’s second postseason honor after earning first-team laurels during the 2009-10 campaign.

In 2011, Spooner, a native of Scarborough, Ontario, led the Buckeyes with a team-high 26 goals which ranked fifth overall in the conference. After netting her 20th goal Jan. 22, she became just the second Buckeye to have three-20 goal seasons in her career, joining Jeni Creary (2002-05). Spooner now is second on the all-time career goals list with 69 to her credit in three seasons at Ohio State. The Buckeye forward, who tallied a season-high 39 points, had eight multiple-goal performances and posted two or more points 14 times in 29 games played. Her 10 power play goals ties for third in the NCAA and her 1.34 points per game ranks 22nd.

Numerous Buckeyes earned WCHA All-Academic Team awards given to sophomores or higher carrying a grade-point average of at least 3.0. Seniors Teal Bishop and Jenna Kilpatrick earned their third nods, while fellow senior Sandy Nelson picked up her second. Spooner and fellow juniors Barbara Bilko, Brittany Carlson, Melissa Feste and Kelly Wild earned their second spots on the team, while four other teammates were named for the first time: Amanda Boskovich, Liz Rizzo, Paige Semenza and Minttu Tuominen.
