COLUMBUS, Ohio The 14th-ranked Ohio State (4-6 overall) men’s volleyball team fell, 3-0 (20-30, 27-30, 21-30) to top-ranked Penn State (10-0) Saturday night in Rec Hall. Buckeye Robbie Klein posted a team-high 12.5 points in the match with 11 kills, an ace serve and an assist block. Will Price recorded a match-high 15.5 points for the Nittany Lions with 15 kills and an assist block.

Penn State, in game one, broke a 9-9 tie with a Price kill and two Ohio State errors to open a 12-9 lead. At 14-11, a John Albertson kill cut the lead to two at 14-12. The Nittany Lions held the lead reaching game point at 29-20 with a Max Lipsitz kill. Penn State won the game, 30-20 off a Buckeye error to give the Nittany Lions a 1-0 lead in the match. The Nittany Lions hit .654 for the game to .333 for Ohio State.

In game two, Ohio State broke a 10-10 tie with a Ted Schoenfeldt kill and a Penn State error to hold a 12-10 lead. An Albertson kill expanded the lead to three at 17-14. Penn State responded with a Joe Sunder kill, a Max Holt-Price block and an Edgardo Goas kill to tie the game at 17. At 19-all, Penn State kills from Ryan Sweitzer and Price, a Lipsitz-Sweitzer block and an OSU error gave the Nittany Lions a 23-19 lead. Ohio State cut the margin to two at 23-21 with kills from Shawn Sangrey and Klein. At 25-23, a Buckeye error and a Joe Sunder kill gave Penn State a 27-23 lead. The Nittany Lions reached game point at 29-24 with a Holt-Goas block. Three Nittany Lion errors stopped three game points to make it 29-27. A Buckeye error ended the game at 30-27 to give Penn State a 2-0 lead in the match. Penn State hit .424 in the game to .194 for Ohio State.

A Ohio State error and a Kevin Heine kill opened game three at 1-1. Penn State kills from Sweitzer and Price and a Lipsitz solo block opened a 4-1 Nittany Lion lead. A Buckeye kill from John Klanac and a Penn State error made it 4-3. Kills from Price and Albertson advanced the score to 5-4. Penn State scored the next four points off two Sunder kill and two Buckeye errors to open a 9-4 lead. Penn State held the lead, reaching match point at 29-21 with a Buckeye error. The Nittany Lions won the game, 30-21, off an Ohio State error to win the match, 3-0. Penn State hit .538 for the game to .281 for Ohio State.

In the match, Penn State hit .529 to .264 for the Buckeyes. The Nittany Lions had a 56-38 margin in kills and a 51-36 advantage in assists. Penn State’s Goas posted a match-high 47 assists. The Nittany Lions had a four-to-three edge in ace serves with Sweitzer posting a match-high three. Ohio State gave up 14 service errors to 13 for the Nittany Lions. Penn State enjoyed a 24-13 margin in digs with Dennis Del Valle posting a match-high eight. At the net, the Nittany Lions had a seven-to-three margin in team blocks. Albertson (three assists), Lipsitz (one solo and two assists) and Holt (one solo and two assists) shared match-high honors with three total blocks each.

Ohio State returns home next week to being a four-match home stand beginning with 7 p.m. matches Thursday and Friday against Quincy.
