COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State men’s volleyball team defeated Waterloo (Canada), 3-0 (30-20, 30-23, 30-21) Friday night in the first of two exhibition matches with the Warriors. Buckeye Shawn Sangrey posted a team-high 12.5 points with a team-high 10 kills, an ace serve, a solo block and an assist block. OSU’s Kevin Heine added 11 points and Robbie Klein contributed 10.5 in the victory. Heine had seven kill, an ace serve and a team-high four total blocks with two solos and two assists. Klein had eight kill, two ace serves and an assist block. Waterloo’s Cameron Dunning recorded a match-high 14 points for the Warriors with a match-high 12 kills and four assist blocks. Aaron Dam added seven points and Tyler Vivian had 6.5. Dam had two kills and a match-high nine total blocks with a solo and eight assists. Vivian posted six kills and an assist block.

For the match, Ohio State hit .221 to .075 for Waterloo. The Buckeyes had a 38-28 advantage in kills and recorded seven ace serves while handling all 47 serve attempts by the Warriors. OSU had a 36-25 margin in digs with OSU’s Mik Berzins recording a match-high 14. At the net, Waterloo had an 11.5 to seven advantage in team blocks. In assists, Buckeye Steven Kehoe posted a match-high 32 while Andrew Thorpe had 17 and Hussein Abdo added five for Waterloo.

The squad completes the two-match exhibition series with a 7 p.m. Saturday contest in St. John Arena. Admission is free.
