COLUMBUS, Ohio Ohio State’s Patrick Woods (competing unattached) sits in first place after the first four rounds of the Men’s Heptathlon at the Akron Invitational in Akron, Ohio.

Woods, a senior from East Liverpool, Ohio, took first in the high jump Friday night, clearing the bar at 2.04m (6-8.75); he also won the long jump at 6.63m (21-9), compiling 3047 points on day one for a 118 point lead over second place Daniel Kinsey of Akron. The friendly rivals are former high school teammates.

Also contending in the heptathlon was sophomore Rob Wade, who sits in seventh place at the end of day one with 2568 points. Wade put together his best performance in the shot put with a mark of 11.56m.
