COLUMBUS, Ohio — Several members of the Ohio State men’s track and field team competed at the Cedarville Challenge Friday night in their final tune up before next weekend’s Big Ten championships at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
In the pole vault, Kyle Burns led the way with a PR and regional qualifying height of 5.08m to finish second overall. Teammate Bryan Chard took third, clearing 4.88m. Last weekend, Chard also hit a regional mark when he cleared 5.05m at the Jesse Owens Classic.
Senior Patrick Whalen took first place in the shot put with a season-best throw of 17.78m. Freshman Tyler Branch just missed a regional qualifying mark with his throw of 16.71m to finish second. Whalen also took first in the discus at 51.41m.
In the hammer throw, Thomas Davis and Max Mays took second and third with throws of 54.43 and 53.29m, respectively. Davis threw a PR and regional qualifying toss of 56.92 last weekend at Jesse Owens.
Distance runners Jeff See and Daniel White are scheduled to run in the 2009 Oregon Twilight in Eugene, Ore., Saturday night. See will run the 1500m and White in the 800m.
