4×400 runs fourth-fastest time in Ohio State indoor history
COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State men’s track and field team wrapped up its indoor campaign Saturday afternoon in South Bend, Ind. at the Alex Wilson Invitational.
Senior Patrick Whalen captured the title in the shot put with an NCAA provisional toss of 17.87m, just a tenth of a meter off of his third place mark last week at the Big Ten Championships. Teammate Matt DeChant finished in fifth place at 16.61m.
Thomas Murdaugh finished second in the 400m dash for the second consecutive week with an NCAA provisional run of 46.58, a personal record and the second best time in the Big Ten this year. Baylor’s LeJerald Betters took first place at 46.23.
Murdaugh, Brandon Woodard, Matt Comer and Stephen Robinson were the lone competitors in the 4x400m relay. The Big Ten Champions ran their best race of the season in an NCAA provisional time of 3:07.98 — the fourth-fastest time in school history.
Comer, who was scheduled to run in the 200m dash, did not compete.
The Buckeyes will take a week off before returning to competition March 20-21 at the Georgia Relays at the University of Georgia.
