COLUMBUS, Ohio Steven Moneke, a senior on the Ohio State men’s tennis team, was named to the 2009 ITA National Men’s Team Indoor Championships All-Tournament Team at No. 3 singles, the ITA announced Wednesday.

En route to his 3-0 record at the event, Moneke, a native Alten-Buseck, Germany, beat all of his opponents in straight-set victories.

In the Buckeyes’ opening-round match against Pepperdine, Moneke downed Alex Liompart 6-3, 6-2 before beating Tennessee’s Davey Sandgren by the same score in the quarterfinals. Moneke then made quick work of UCLA’s Holden Seguso in consolation action when he blanked the Bruin 6-0, 6-0.

This is the ITA’s second-annual all-tournament team. In the inaugural listing in 2008, three Buckeyes were recognized in singles, while an OSU doubles tandem was honored.  Moneke (No. 2), Matt Allare (No. 5) and Drew Eberly (No. 6) made the 2008 cut. The pair of Eberly and Justin Kronauge was selected at No. 2 doubles.

Voters for the all-tournament team include the 16 participating coaches and the ITA National Ranking Committee.
